Ice Luges

Diana and Son’s Ice House have the in-house expertise to create the best luge’s in the state. An ice luge is a highly specialized, functional variation of an ice sculpture that features carved channels designed to chill and serve beverages. Our crafters will meticulously carve your ice luge from a massive, crystal-clear block of ice, for your wedding centerpieces, corporate functions and parties.

How They Work

• The Process: A liquid (such as chilled liquor, champagne, or punch) is poured into the top of the sculpture. As the beverage flows rapidly down the narrow, sloped channel, the freezing temperature of the ice chills the liquid in seconds.
• Delivery: Guests either catch the chilled drink in a glass at the bottom of the luge or drink directly from the carved ice.
• Dual Purpose: Because they are made from large blocks, luges can be shaped into virtually anything—ranging from elegant swans, hearts, and company logos to martini glasses and bottles

Care and Mechanics

• Creation: Our Sculptors at Diana and Son’s Ice House, use motorized tools like chainsaws, die grinders, and electric routers to carve designs into -8°C blocks of ice. Crystal clarity is achieved by circulating water while it freezes to prevent air bubbles from getting trapped.
• Melting: Depending on room temperature, a block lasts five to seven hours, indoors. Displays require a drainage tray at the base to catch meltwater and protect surfaces.
• Safety and Hygiene: Ice provides a sanitary surface because it is continuously rinsed by the flowing liquid.
